Moonie

A soft toy that switches itself on the moment your baby starts to cry, with a gentle light and a sound close to what they heard for nine months. That is a Moonie: not a toy with a beep, but a sleep aid that looks like a cuddly. Handmade in Europe from organic cotton, suitable from birth.
Order before 4 pm on a working day and your order ships the same day.
How does a Moonie work?
Inside the tummy sits a module with light and sound. What it holds:
- Five natural sounds — womb sound, wind, a forest stream, rain and sea waves. Plus three lullabies: a kalimba melody, Debussy's Clair de Lune and a Moonie original.
- Responds to crying by itself. When your baby starts to cry, the sound and light come on automatically. The sensor stays active for three hours afterwards, so it works in the middle of the night too. Often that is enough for a baby to settle again without you going in.
- A one-minute recording function — your own voice, a song or a message. For some children a familiar voice works better than any sound, and it helps when one parent is away a lot.
- A soft night light, with adjustable volume and a standby you can set to 30, 60 or 90 minutes.
- USB-C rechargeable, cable included — no more batteries.
- 100% organic cotton, hypoallergenic and suitable from 0 months.
Which Moonie suits us?
The sleep companions are identical in technology; the difference is the shape and the colours.
- Humming Bear — the best known, 28 × 16 cm. In six colours: Sand, Cappuccino, Rose, Caramel, Polar and Gray.
- Humming Bunny — the same, with long ears. In five colours.
- Humming Seal — the seal, in three colours.
- Humming Friend — with one extra: the light comes on with a gentle shake, so your child can wake it up themselves.
And without the electronics, as a small gift or an addition:
- Mini soft toy — small and fluffy, with sensory beads in the tummy to squeeze. GOTS cotton and the only one that is simply washable. From 0 months.
- Small sensory teddy — 19 cm, in Cappuccino and Sand.
- Natural rubber teethers — for coming teeth, OEKO-TEX certified, from 0 months. As a bear and as a bunny.
Advice from our own sleep specialist
Douïna is a childcare professional and sleep specialist at Kideo Kinderdagverblijven, and wrote for us about using the Moonie: what a toy like this does and does not do, and what to watch for. Read her blog about the Moonie toys (in Dutch).
What she always adds: a soft toy with sound is not a magic fix. A steady bedtime routine and a quiet room do at least as much. But for children who sleep lightly, or in a house with a lot of noise, a steady background sound genuinely helps — it masks the door that slams and the brother who talks.
Using it safely
Two things we always mention. The common guidance is to keep a baby's cot empty, so put the Moonie beside the bed or on the outside of the playpen rather than in it. The light and sound work just as well from there. For when something may go in, follow the advice of your child health clinic or doctor.
And don't turn the volume higher than needed. A background sound should be quieter than normal conversation and leave room for your voice to be heard.

Frequently asked questions about Moonie
Can the toy go in the washing machine?
No. The sleep companions with a module are wiped clean with a damp cloth; they are not suitable for the washing machine. The Mini soft toy, which has no electronics, is fully washable. Always check the label on the product itself.
From what age can I use a Moonie?
All Moonie products are suitable from 0 months. Put the sleep companions beside the bed, not in it.
Which sounds does it have?
Five natural sounds — womb sound, wind, forest stream, rain and sea waves — and three lullabies. You can also record a minute yourself: your own voice, a song or a message.
How does the cry sensor work?
It picks up when your baby starts crying and switches on the sound and the light by itself. The sensor stays active for three hours, so it covers the middle of the night as well.
Does it need batteries?
No, the module charges over USB-C and the cable is included.
What is the difference between the models?
Technically nothing — Bear, Bunny, Seal and Friend share the same module. The difference is the shape and the colours. The Friend has one extra: its light comes on with a gentle shake.
