One bottle you use on your own skin and on your baby's. That is the idea behind Kenko: care mild enough for a newborn and pleasant enough for a mother who has just given birth. Not a separate line for you and another for your child, but products you use together. Made in the Netherlands, in packaging of recycled plastic. Order before 4 pm on a working day and your order ships the same day.
For mother and baby together
- Body oil for mother and baby — feeds a newborn's delicate skin without feeling greasy, and works just as well on your own. Also as a 100 ml baby version.
- Cream wash gel for mother and baby — hypoallergenic, for your baby's dry skin and for yourself in the period after birth. There is also a version for mother alone.
- Bath oil for mother and baby and the Soothing Bath Oil — for the bath, together or apart.
For the baby
- Baby Balm — for the dry, sensitive skin of newborns, suitable from birth and COSMOS Organic certified by Ecocert.
- Nappy balm — with organic oils, non-nano uncoated zinc oxide, chamomile, cocoa and shea butter. Soothes irritated skin and helps prevent nappy rash.
- Oil wash cream — gentle cleansing, developed for newborns.
- Sol children's perfume — a soft scent, made for children.
For the mother
- Golden Mother Oil — for the last trimester and the months after. COSMOS Organic certified and fragrance-free, so you can use it while breastfeeding too.
- Creamy Balm Mama — a rich balm for changing skin during and after pregnancy.
- Sleep lotion and the body oil for mother.
Sun protection
The SPF50 sun cream for mother and baby works with non-nano uncoated zinc oxide — a mineral filter that protects against both UVA and UVB. A filter like that works immediately: no waiting time before your child can get in the water.
The classic objection to mineral filters is the white cast. Kenko states this cream leaves none, which also makes it usable on your own face. It is dermatologically tested, suitable for all ages including newborns, and COSMOS Organic certified by Ecocert.
Apply generously and evenly before going into the sun and reapply regularly — certainly after swimming, towelling off or sweating. For babies under six months the general advice is to avoid direct sun and work mainly with shade and clothing; when in doubt, check with your child health clinic or doctor.
Gift sets
For a new-baby present there are two ready-made sets: the Bonding Duo for mother and baby together, and the Baby Bubble. Both contain products that actually get used up — no cupboard fillers.
Why we stock Kenko
With skincare we look at two things: what is in it, and does it work in practice. Kenko's ingredient lists are short and recognisable, and several products carry the COSMOS Organic certification from Ecocert — that is an independent check rather than just the word "natural" on the bottle.
What we also like: everything is made in the Netherlands, the bottles are 100% recycled plastic and the boxes are made from agricultural waste. And the idea that one product suits both mother and child saves you a bag full of tubes.
Frequently asked questions about Kenko
Where is Kenko made?
In the Netherlands. The packaging is 100% recycled plastic and the boxes are made from agricultural waste.
What does COSMOS Organic mean?
A European standard for organic cosmetics, checked for Kenko by Ecocert. There are requirements on the share of organic ingredients, their origin and the production. The product page states which products carry it.
What does non-nano zinc oxide mean?
That the zinc particles are large enough not to penetrate the skin: they stay on the surface and reflect sunlight there. Kenko uses it in the sun cream and in the nappy balm.
Is the sun cream suitable for babies?
Kenko states the cream is dermatologically tested and suitable for all ages, including newborns. For babies under six months the general advice is still to avoid direct sun and work with shade and clothing. When in doubt, check with your child health clinic or doctor.
Can I use Kenko while breastfeeding?
The Golden Mother Oil is fragrance-free and therefore suitable for use while feeding. For the other products, check the ingredient list on the product page.
Where does the name come from?
Kenkō is the Japanese word for health. The brand itself is Dutch.
